Submersible
pumps are intended to function with the pump and motor immersed in the water
(or other fluid) to be pumped, with the motor used being completely watertight
to prevent any liquid seeping through which may cause it to short circuit.
This kind of pump does not require priming and reduces the
risk of cavitation, a common problem. Cavitation occurs when bubbles form in
the fluid low-pressure area and collapse in a higher pressure area of the pump
- causing noise, damage and loss of efficiency.
Submersible pumps are used in many applications. They can be
lowered into wells to extract water for drinking and irrigation, or in pits and
sumps to pump out wastewater. In domestic situations, if a cellar or basement
floods then a submersible pump offers a solution for fast removal of water.
Many people use submersible pumps in their pond to create a waterfall or simply
to empty it as part of a regular maintenance programme.
Gibbons stock a wide range of submersible pumps, with clean
and dirty-water models covering pond care, emptying of swimming pools and flood
drainage. We’re also a proud supplier of Lowara
and T-T
Pumps products, including chopper and grinder pumps which tackle heavy-duty
work in industrial environments.
