The Government has set a target of doubling British exports
to £1 trillion in the next four years, with manufacturers set to form a
critical part of the ambitious project.
The plan was announced as over 300 UK manufacturers were
addressed by Lord Price CVO (Minister of State for Trade and Investment) and
Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea CBE, DL at an International Festival for Business
conference arranged by EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation. The Government has
committed to having an extra 100,000 businesses exporting by 2020 as it looks
to strengthen the UK’s position in the global economy.
If the British manufacturing sector is to meet the
Government’s export target, significant investment in energy-efficient
equipment will be required to achieve increase in productivity.
Electric
motor-driven applications make up two thirds of global industrial
electricity consumption, meaning that installing, or upgrading to, IE3 and IE4
motors will yield substantial long-term energy savings while providing a quick
return on investment.
Connecting variable-speed
drives to motor-powered equipment including fans, compressors conveyors,
pumps and mixers allows manufacturers to achieve energy savings of up to 60 per
cent. While productivity and profitability is vastly increased, manufacturers
enjoy the added benefits of reduced equipment wear and maintenance
requirements.
Gibbons Engineering Group is an authorised value provider
for ABB
drives, which means we’re fully approved to recommend, install, service and
repair equipment to optimise manufacturing processes. We have extensive experience
delivering projects within the UK manufacturing sector, with satisfied clients
in the food and beverage, chemical and pharmaceutical industries to name just a
few.
