Are there any AHU exemptions in the ErP Directive?

In a recent HVAC blog we looked at the Energy-related Products (ErP) Directive, specifically Lot 6 which deals with minimum performance levels for ventilation units. This legislation takes effect from January 1^st 2016, so if your air handling equipment doesn’t comply then there’s no time to lose. But what about the exemptions to Lot 6? Let’s take a look at them:

•          Ventilation systems that feature a heat exchanger and a heat pump for heat recovery
•          Fans with a power input of less than 30 W in a casing according to 327/2011 (ecodesign requirements for fans driven by motors with an electric input power between 125 W and 500 kW)
•          ATEX directive equipment (for explosive atmospheres)
•          Fans for use in emergency situations
•          Fans used in certain extreme temperatures
•          Kitchen fans
•          Where the power supply voltage is over 1,000V (AC) or 1,500V (DC)
•          In toxic, corrosive and inflammable environments or in environments with abrasive materials
