Automation giant ABB reached a significant milestone in
November as it delivered its 10 millionth variable-speed
drive.
The industrial drive in question was an ACS880,
which was assembled at ABB’s Beijing factory before being installed for a
Chinese company manufacturing electric control systems for port cranes.
ABB’s first VSDs were produced in the 1970s and are now an
essential element of electric motor-driven processes across the globe. VSDs
enable users to control electric motor speed in applications as varied as air-conditioning
systems, pumps and conveyors. This increases both productivity and energy
efficiency, allowing for significant cost savings to be made whilst helping
users meet ever-tightening carbon emissions legislation.
In January 2014 ABB launched its Authorized
Value Provider programme. The AVP scheme sees a select group of providers
across the UK stock, distribute and offer local value-added support for ABB
drives.
Gibbons Engineering Group is a founder member of this
prestigious network, so if you’d like to become the latest ABB drives
user to benefit from state-of-the-art technology and consistent reliability,
