The deadline for meeting new European regulations for electric motors is
growing ever closer. In less than four months, all electric motors sold in the
EU will be required to be rated at IE3 efficiency, unless connected to a
variable-speed drive in which case IE2 will suffice.
Despite publicity of this new legislation over recent
months, many companies are still in the dark when it comes to ensuring their
motor stock is compliant by 1st January 2015. Time really is of the
essence and satisfying the new regulations isn’t a quick job that can be left
until New Year’s Eve! Firms need to be aware that logging their electric motors
and replacing non-compliant ones should be carried out with assistance from
their supplier, who can advise on the cost of upgrading to IE3 or installing
variable-speed drives.
