» Commercial kitchens facing energy-efficiency challenge
Friday, 4 March 2016
The British catering industry is set to undergo significant
changes following amendments to Part L of the Building Regulations, with energy-efficiency
standards for non-domestic UK buildings rising by nine per cent.
In addition, the Non-Domestic Building Services Compliance
Guide, which was released in November 2013 as an accompaniment to Part L, set
maximum specific fan power (SFP) for kitchen extract systems at 1.0W/l/s (Watts
per litre per second of air moved).
Large kitchens within restaurants, hotels and workplaces use
around two-and-a-half times more energy per square metre of floor area than the
average building in the commercial sector. This, coupled with fluctuating
energy prices and the latest legislation means that upgrading old ventilation
within commercial kitchens should be a priority for facilities management.
Gibbons HVAC Services has many years’ experience delivering
projects within the commercial kitchen sector, including air handling unit
repair and refurbishment, ductwork cleaning and, of course, upgrading equipment
in order to meet the latest energy-efficiency standards.
By combining state-of-the-art technology with our experience
within the field, we’re able to revolutionise your HVAC system, leading to
improved reliability, reduced maintenance costs and extended equipment life.
