Almost half of data centre owners do not intend to implement
energy-saving targets, according to a new study from information and
communications technology (ICT) industry consortium The Green Grid.
The research found that 43 per cent of respondents had no
energy-efficiency targets for the design and operation of their data centres,
while just under one in three companies could quantify their buildings’
environmental impact. However, this inaction is not born out of ignorance, as 97
per cent of those surveyed said they had identified areas for improving data
centre monitoring, including energy efficiency.
This information tells us that although data centre managers
are fully aware of the potential to save energy (and money), they do not have
the time or resources to implement the necessary changes. This is
understandable when you consider that managers are under pressure to deliver an
uninterrupted service with a reliability target of 99.9999% in order to avoid
paying compensation to clients. Energy efficiency simply isn’t at the top of
their list.
That’s where Gibbons can help.
Gibbons Engineering Group boasts vast experience supplying,
installing and maintaining HVAC
and humidification systems for data centres of all sizes across the world. We
enhance air handling equipment with the precision control of variable-speed
