You may be aware that Gibbons Engineering Group provides a full package of condition monitoring services, but what is condition monitoring, and how does it benefit you, the end user? Read on as we reveal all…

Condition monitoring, or condition-based maintenance, is the process of observing a certain aspect of a machine’s performance to detect changes that may indicate a developing fault. By identifying a defect at an early stage, it can be corrected before it leads to failure. Condition monitoring normally takes place on rotating equipment such as electric motors and pumps, which is why it’s a vital part of our service.

Condition monitoring ensures your equipment runs at maximum efficiency, so you can enjoy the best possible performance from your machinery whilst avoiding costly unplanned downtime.

The parameters monitored by Gibbons include:

Vibration
Using the latest portable equipment we’re able to visit your site and analyse vibration levels. This allows us to predict bearing failure and carry out planned maintenance before a breakdown occurs.

Shaft alignment
Misalignment between the shafts of rotating machinery results in excessive stress and wear – ultimately leading to malfunction and unplanned maintenance. Our laser alignment systems provide precision measurement, enabling smooth and trouble-free running.

Temperature
By identifying issues such as lack of lubrication, bearing wear and poor electrical connection via our sophisticated temperature monitoring and analysis, we can predict and prevent future failure.

Balance
Out-of-balance rotating equipment is not only noisy and inefficient, it will also have a drastically reduced lifecycle. We identify and correct unbalance in your machinery to protect bearings and ensure long, reliable service.

By allowing Gibbons to carry out condition monitoring on your equipment, you’ll enjoy the following benefits:
Improved reliability
Maximised component life
Minimised downtime
Extended performance
