Gibbons engineering apprentice Harry Hughes reached a proud
milestone this week when he carried out his first full electric motor rewind.
Eighteen-year-old Harry has been based in our rewinds and
repairs workshop since June and has made swift progress under the tutelage of
the experienced team.
His first completed project was a 0.45 kW 940 rpm
single-phase motor which he stripped down before diligently rewinding to our
exacting standards. Harry then tested the motor before it was returned to the
customer and put back in operation.
Prior to joining us in the summer, Harry attained a Level 3
Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Colchester Institute
along with an EAL Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations.
Gibbons has welcomed apprentices to learn their trade with
us for decades and we’re always delighted to help young people launch their
career in engineering. The friendly and professional environment at Gibbons
means we retain many apprentices long after they’ve served their time, so we
hope this will be the first of many rewinds for Harry!
Our rewinds and repairs division has been established for
over 45 years and offers a 24-hour call-out service along with free collection
and delivery within a 50-mile radius. Along with electric motors we repair a
range of electro-mechanical equipment including generators, pumps, gearboxes
and alternators.
