What is ASHRAE 62.1?

ASHRAE was formed as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers in 1959 and sets standards for energy-efficiency, indoor air quality (IAQ), refrigeration and sustainability within the HVAC industry.

ASHRAE 62.1 is the Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality standard and was issued in 1973, with the last revision made in 2013. The legislation addresses air temperature, relative humidity, contaminants, air-distribution systems and pressurisation. ASHRAE 62.1 also includes a focus on specific requirements for hospitals and other healthcare buildings.

The ASHRAE-compliant CoilCare® is an innovative HVAC disinfection treatment from Gibbons Ultraviolet Solutions. CoilCare® applies the sterilising power of UVC light to the cooling coil within air handling units (AHUs) in order to eradicate contaminants which build up over time.
