HVAC fan belts, if not properly maintained, can
significantly reduce the efficiency of your system and lead to costly premature
failure.
If a fan belt is loose, it will slip, and the friction
produces more heat. Because the heat must be dissipated by the belt itself, the
temperature increase causes further stretching and slipping. This of course results
in even more heat being created and the cycle continues.
A slipping belt has a direct effect on fan speed which leads
to a reduction in airflow. This makes the building feel warmer, so occupants
turn down the thermostat which means the struggling system must work even
harder to cool the air. This, you guessed it, means more heat is produced by
the system and the vicious cycle continues until the unit inevitably fails.
These problems can be avoided by implementing a regular HVAC
maintenance plan, with all components routinely checked and any issues
resolved. But how do you fit that into an already tight schedule? That’s where
we come in.
