One third of the world’s electricity consumption is claimed by industry, but have you ever wondered what equipment consumes most of this power? It’s the electric motor, which is responsible for 65% of all electricity consumed by industry.
With this in mind, it makes sense to use the most economical electric motors possible, which is where Gibbons comes in. Our team of expert engineers are on hand to ensure that you’re supplied with a motor that will provide the maximum efficiency possible and keep your long-term running costs to a minimum.
The European MEPS (Minimum Energy Performance Standard) for low voltage motors has set the following deadlines for efficiency ratings:
- Phase 1 (from 16 June 2012) – Motors must meet IE2 efficiency level
- Phase 2 (from 1 January 2015) – Motors with a rated output of 7.5 kW–375 kW must meet either the IE3 efficiency level or the IE2 level if fitted with a variable-speed drive
- Phase 3 (from 1 January 2017) – Motors with a rated output of 0.75 kW–375 kW must meet either the IE3 efficiency level or the IE2 level if fitted with a variable-speed drive.
In keeping with this legislation, Gibbons motors are all rated at IE2 efficiency (high efficiency). We also provide IE3 (premium efficiency) and IE4 (super premium efficiency) motors as an option.
