When an electric motor fails, the user must decide whether to replace or rewind their equipment - a decision that’s been the cause of much debate over the years. According to the Electrical Engineering Portal, around 300,000 electric motors are rewound in Britain each year, resulting in a 1-2 per cent loss of efficiency on average.

Some users express concerns about the effect of rewinding on their motor’s efficiency, but the fact is that it normally comes down to the person carrying out the rewind. An experienced engineer will rewind a failed motor to manufacturer specifications, using high-quality materials in order to restore the machine as close as possible to its original efficiency.

Here at Gibbons we’ve been carrying out electric motor rewinds for over 45 years, and our skilled engineers are experienced working with all motor makes and sizes. Along with an emergency 24-hour call-out service, we can offer free collection and delivery within a 50-mile radius of our Essex workshop.

Once your motor has been inspected, we’ll offer an honest appraisal. If it’s not economically viable to repair the motor, we’ll tell you and suggest a suitable replacement. However, if we feel the most energy-efficient option is a rewind, you’ll receive an accurate quote and estimated lead time to help you make a decision.

If you’ve had an electric motor failure and want to discuss your best option for getting running as soon as possible, call us on 01621 868138 or email info@gibbonsgroup.co.uk.
