We’re looking forward to making 2015 our best ever year here
at Gibbons Group so we thought it was a good time to have a quick look back at
the highlights of another successful 12 months.
Projects
We’ve continued our rapid expansion this year, exporting our
products across the globe. We’re fully equipped to deal with large-scale projects
all over the UK and Europe, but we’ll never forget our roots and are proud to
continue serving local businesses large and small. Here are just a few of the many
projects we tackled in 2014.
- After we travelled to Europe and installed our rotary atomiser for a global manufacturer of semiconductors, the client, a world leader in their field, was so impressed that they urged their American division to employ our services. The US branch later contacted us to enquire about having the rotary atomiser installed in their air handling units (AHUs) across the pond. Word certainly gets around!
- When a top London hotel – which has featured in iconic British films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Atonement – needed a kitchen extractor fan replacing urgently, our fast-acting HVAC team saved the day. The fan was linked to the kitchen’s gas supply - so when it went down, everything else went with it and the hotel was faced with having no facilities to serve meals. We pulled out all the stops, turned the job round overnight and by 6am the kitchen was fully operational.
- In 2009 we installed some HVAC inverter drives for a large central London bank. Fast-forward to June when the client contacted us to report that one of the inverters was showing a fault, which turned out to be a minor component failure. HVAC Services manager Andrew Knight ensured that an engineer was on site first thing the next morning along with a new ABB ACH550 drive. Within 24 hours of the fault being reported, the new inverter was in place and fully operational.
- One October morning we received a Jacuzzi pump for repair, and upon inspection we realised it had been supplied by our Fans division more than two decades earlier! The pump still had our original tag attached – dated 28 January 1993 – so when it failed the customer thought there was no-one better to repair it than the company that originally supplied it and brought it to our workshop. We soon had it back in excellent working order and after 21 years our customer certainly felt they’d had their money’s worth!
AVP programme
In January, Drives Manager Alan Roberts attended a very
special ABB event in the heart of London, where Gibbons was announced as a
founder member of the Authorised
Value Provider scheme for variable-speed drives. The AVP programme is a
network of specially-selected companies approved to stock, distribute and
provide local value-added support for ABB products and services. This
prestigious position means that, for 12 months and counting, our clients have
enjoyed an even greater range of products and expertise for ABB drives.
New faces
Our workforce continued to expand in 2014 as we set about
recruiting in order to continue providing the highest standards in products and
services. Among the new starters were Zofia
Woodcock, who arrived as Accounts Assistant in July, and Administrator Victoria Stroud, who began her post in
November.

page.
45th
anniversary
2014 marked 45 years since the
inception of our business and we
marked the anniversary in style. Not only were our celebrations were
featured in several local newspapers, we also published a special interview
with founder and Chairman Martin Gibbons who cast his mind back to 1969 and the
formation of the company.
Gibbons in
the community
When we’re not hard at work, we love being involved in
events and causes both near and far – here are a few of our most memorable from
this year.
- We were delighted to once again attend the invitation-only Doe Show in early February, an annual three-day event for leading agriculture, construction and groundcare companies to showcase their products and services.
- In September we held our annual golf day, as staff and their guests descended on Benton Hall Golf Club in Witham for an enjoyable day on the greens.
- November saw us welcome Flat Stanley, a very special 2D guest who visited us all the way from St Lucy School in Campbell, USA as part of a geography project.
As you can see, it was a year to remember at Gibbons Group,
but we’re already working hard to ensure we offer you an even higher standard
of products and services in 2015. Happy New Year from everyone at Gibbons
Group!
