Proper pond maintenance is vital if you want to provide a healthy environment for wildlife and aquatic plants to thrive in. Here’s some important information about caring for your pond and its inhabitants.

One of the most important elements of pond care is the routine changing of the water in order to remove contaminants. Pond water should be pumped out at least once every year, with late autumn being the ideal time as this is when many creatures are less active. Doing this will also ensure that your pond is in the best possible condition for those tough winter months.

For quick and easy pond drainage, use a submersible pump which is a portable device that’s simply lowered into the pond with a hose attached to take the water away. You may wish to order a dirty water pump (also known as a grey water pump) which is specially designed to handle the solids found in pond water without blocking. These pumps are lightweight, easy to operate and can be used for a number of other applications including emptying cellars and swimming pools.

Gibbons stock a range of submersible pumps for clean and dirty water applications which are ideal for emptying old pond water. Why not give us a call on 01621 868138 or email info@gibbonsgroup.co.uk for more information and a competitive quote?
